Summary The fledgling project ARTIFEX will develop technologies for remote operations of sea-based fish farms. A successful outcome of the project will represent a large potential for commercialization of game changing technologies for future operation of fish farms.
The main objective is to develop new robot technologies for daily and periodic inspection, maintenance and repair operations remotely controlled from a land-based control centre without onsite personnel. The project will utilize maritime state-of-the-art vehicles, and will through exploitation of possible vehicle interactions, provide a robust and flexible system. An Unmanned Surface Vehicle (USV) will be used as platform for carrying a Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) for underwater operations, and a Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS) for airborne inspection tasks. The USV will travel between different sites and a land base. The project results will serve as a basis for new and ground-breaking products and services that enable unmanned operation of farms using autonomous systems and without risk for personnel. One of the main goals is to allow for operations tougher weather conditions, thus facilitating the use of more remote and exposed sites and expand the weather window for operations.
Research will be carried out within 4 major areas:
- Vehicle Design and onboard equipment
- Autonomous systems and operator interaction
- Airborne RPAS-operations
- Underwater ROV-operations
The various subsystems will be integrated into a prototype for full scale testing and validation.
